When planning a pharmaceutical event, medical meeting, symposium, product launch, or exhibition, clients often ask us:
“What does P1.2, P2.5 or P3.9 mean?”
And perhaps the more important question is:
“Which one is right for my event?”
The answer is not simply that the smallest number is always the best.
The right LED screen should be selected based on what you are presenting, how close your audience is to the screen, the size of the screen, and how much visual detail your audience needs to see.
For pharmaceutical events, this can become especially important when your presentation includes clinical information, charts, diagrams, medical illustrations, product details, research data, or anonymized patient case studies.
What does the “P” in P1.2, P2.5 or P3.9 actually mean?
The “P” refers to Pixel Pitch — the distance from the centre of one LED pixel to the next, measured in millimetres.
For example:
- P1.2 = approximately 1.2 mm between pixels
- P2.5 = approximately 2.5 mm between pixels
- P3.9 = approximately 3.9 mm between pixels
- P4.8 = approximately 4.8 mm between pixels
The smaller the number, the closer the pixels are together.
That means more pixels can fit into the same physical screen area, producing a finer and sharper image, particularly when the audience is sitting or standing close to the screen.
A simple way to remember it is:
Smaller P = smaller space between pixels = finer image up close.
What is the difference between P1.2 and the LED screens commonly used at events?
Many rental LED screens used for conferences, stages and large events are in ranges such as P2.5, P2.9, P3.9 or P4.8, depending on the supplier, venue, audience distance and event requirements.
These screens can work extremely well when the audience is several metres away.
However, when people move closer to a larger-pitch LED screen, they may begin to notice the individual LED pixels, and very small text or detailed images may not appear as refined.
P1.2 brings those pixels much closer together.
As a result, it is particularly useful when:
- The audience is close to the screen
- Presentations contain small text
- Medical images need more visible detail
- Charts and diagrams contain fine information
- Product visuals require a premium presentation
- The LED is being used in an exhibition or showcase area where visitors can walk close to it
For a traditional stage viewed from a longer distance, P3.9 may already work perfectly well.
But for a detailed medical presentation viewed from close range, P1.2 can provide a noticeably more refined viewing experience.
Does a smaller P number always mean a better LED screen?
Not necessarily.
This is one of the most important things event teams should understand.
Higher resolution does not automatically mean it is the right solution for every event.
Imagine you have a very large conference stage and the audience is sitting 10 metres or more from the LED wall.
At that distance, investing in P1.2 may provide very little additional benefit to the audience compared with an appropriately selected P2.5 or P3.9 system.
But imagine an exhibition where an HCP is standing only 1–2 metres from the screen and reading a detailed case study.
Now pixel pitch becomes much more important.
So instead of asking:
“What is the best LED screen?”
We recommend asking:
“What LED screen is best for what my audience needs to see?”
The answer should consider:
Viewing Distance + Content Detail + Screen Size + Venue + Budget
That is how the LED specification should be selected.
Why can P1.2 be particularly useful for pharmaceutical and medical events?
Because pharmaceutical content is often much more detailed than normal event visuals.
A corporate event may use a screen primarily for:
- Branding
- Speaker names
- Videos
- Large headlines
- Background graphics
A pharmaceutical meeting may need to show:
- Clinical study information
- Research results
- Charts and graphs
- Treatment pathways
- Medical diagrams
- Product information
- Before-and-after comparisons
- Anonymized patient case studies
- Detailed presentation slides
When your audience includes healthcare professionals, specialists, partners or key decision-makers, those details matter.
P1.2 is therefore not simply about making the LED screen “look more beautiful.”
The real benefit is helping your audience:
See the information more clearly.
Understand the presentation more easily.
And focus on the details that matter.
For an exhibition booth or medical showcase where visitors stand close to the display, this difference can become even more noticeable.
How should we choose the right LED screen for our next Pharma Event?
Start with the audience and the content — not the LED specification.
Before recommending P1.2, P2.5, P3.9 or another solution, we would normally consider questions such as:
How close is the first row to the screen?
What type of information will be presented?
Will there be detailed charts, medical images or case studies?
Will people be viewing the screen from an exhibition booth at close range?
How large will the LED wall be?
Will cameras be recording or broadcasting the presentation?
What level of visual quality does the event require?
Once these questions are answered, the technology can be matched to the purpose of the event.
